Saturday and Sunday I have taken to be days when I don't have to get up early to trade. Sure, my body clock is triggering "wake up" around 3-4am. But I tell it to "Ease up and go sleep."
So, why am I up at 3.30 in the morning? "Uncle! Auntie! I want my Mummy. ... I'm having a bad dream. ... I don't like the dark." Our guest for the night was having nightmares. I don't know who planned the sleep over, but they didn't come rushing in and sure are oversleeping at this time.
What do you do for other people's children when they get upset and wake in the middle of the night? Same as I would do for my own, I guess. Rub the back. Say "Hush". Close their eyes. Tell them "No more bad dreams." Should work, eh? Well, kind of. Took a while. We needed to get through "I'm thirsty", "My nanny sometimes gives me breakfast in the middle of the day" and a few other twists and turns before we got back to quiet rhythmic breathing and just listening to cats wailing, dogs barking, frogs whistling, and leaves rustling.
I know that we all are better off after a good night's sleep, and fortunately, I had gone to bed really, really early. Children need ample sleep to develop well. Surely, National Sleep Week isn't ending tomorrow. With more sleepless nights I need to demand an extension.
