Collaboration

Below is a request from my friend and fellow Barbadian blogger, Ingrid Persaud.

The proposal is simple.

On Friday 16 October at 12 noon (your time zone) you take a photo with your phone camera (or any handy camera) and e-mail it to her.

The photo can be of anything or anyone or yourself.

Her e-mail address is ingbgi@gmail.com.

She will collage the photos into one (hopefully interesting) image that will be posted for all to download.

All it takes is a minute to be part of art-through-web-collaboration.

Looking forward to your pictures from around the globe.

Best,

Ingrid

PS: Please forward to your friends and colleagues.

I,ve always been interested in photography as a hobby but never found the time to pursue it as much as I wanted. Over 30 years ago I bought a 35mm camera and took a lot of family photos or used it occasionally when we travelled. In the last 5 years I bought a small digital camera which was great for instant photography and quick results but did not provide the fine detail and macro photography which I saw in other work. This year I bought a digital SLR which cost more money than I thought I would ever spend on a camera. I also took a one day course at a local college to learn to use it better. I was going to take a longer course in the fall but other priorities got in the way. The problem with a camera like mine is that the photos are great and the detail spectacular but the accessories are very pricey, I am currently about to buy a flash which is also costly and EBay doesn’t provide much relief. The other issue is transportation of the camera plus all the other equipment that I will purchase in the future, as it stands if I travel by car there is no problem but if you fly with all the restrictions that they have on luggage etc. and carryon bags I may have a problem.

I also have several photos of the East Coast Road/ Bathsheba area like the iconic one on your masthead. The blog Barbados in Focus does a good job in portraying Barbados

Sargeant,

First I hope you took one picture to add to Ingrid's collage.

Second, I too have been into photography for about 30-40 years. I have moved from box Brownie, through SLRs, and have done a lot of mini projects just for fun. Now I find myself with little digital and bigger SLR digital. I take photos all the time and am known now as a chronicler. It's great to share.

I suggest you get snapping and deal with the add ons as needed. I would also suggest that accessories are less important unless you have a particular aspect that the regular set up does not allow--then you are being specialist anyway. Don't let the world pass by without capturing the moments. With digital it's really so easy. I remember a month's worth of pictures I took in Europe all ruined when the rolls of films were exposed to X-rays at a defective airport security check!

If you wish to share the Bathsheba photos, feel free here. Like you, I often find Barbados in Focus is pure eye candy.

Good luck.
